My Girl Has MRSA .... AGAIN.

Yep,MRSA is back and this momma is not happy. Not happy one bit.I knew that there was a possibility of re-infection but I was under the misguided assumption that the recurrence would be in the same location.Which in Zoey's case, was her cute little bottom. So I have watched that little bottom like a hawk.I have been on MRSA high alert. But just as I was becoming comfortable that we had bid adieu to the unwelcome guest to my little loves body, wham, bam no thank you ma'am ... it's back and this time on her tummy.

Last night,as I was getting her ready for bed,I noticed 3 little red spots.I didn't really give it much thought, as many of you know, our little ones that sport an extra chromosome can have very sensitive skin.Mark noticed them a bit later and Jess even sarcastically mouthed "MRSA" to Taylor. So off to bed Miss Zoey went and with daybreak and a diaper change, came the sneaking suspicion that this was NOT just your run of the mill odd rash. One had a very distinctive pimple head to it and as I looked at it I just knew.MRSA was back.

After speaking to her doctor,I think we are looking at colonized MRSA.Not what I really wanted to hear.Basically it means that MRSA has taken up shop on her skin surface.Could shown up anytime.Without warning.Anywhere.Yeah,so can you see why I am none too happy?Hard to say when and if it will make itself scarce. My doctor didn't even dare to speculate.

The plan of attack is this:Watch the "spots".Yes there are multiple, where as last time there was just one.One is especially not nice looking but to be perfectly honest, last time things went south by the 24 hour mark and we have at least passed that as of tonight. We are applying an ointment,Mupirocin, which has been know to keep things at bay.We are applying the same ointment to each of her nostrils,2 times a day,as MRSA likes to take up residence there. Each of these steps are not tried and true but are at least options. If any of the areas seem the least bit worse in the morning,we will be paying a visit to our favorite, neighborhood pediatrician,or as I found out today, his partner because my regular go to guy has the nerve to go head out on a short vacation.Doesn't he know that when his high maintenance patient is in crisis, that we need him?Kidding.Sort of,as I have come to truly depend on him for guidance with our complicated girl.

That's all I've got tonight.Seems like plenty to me though,as I have to tell you,the thought of Zoey having MRSA just"hanging" around, waiting to rear it's ugly head at any opportunistic time, kind of makes me feel sick to my stomach.I cried uncle a long time ago, guess the Big Guy,never got the memo.

To offset the bummer of a day,we do have big plans for the girl wonder this weekend.Big plans as in Zoey is doing her MAKE A WISH on Sunday. We are super excited for our warrior child and are excited to share the day with you in pictures come Sunday night ... so venture back then and see what Zoey chose for her WISH.Um,whatever could it be?

Oh no...terribly sorry to hear this, poor little Zoey I do hope it doesn't pain too much. I hope that since you have managed to catch it so early it won't blow out of proportion and that it leaves Zoey's precious little tummy really fast.

Will definitely say a special little prayer for our little girl. Hugs & kisses to her :)

Heather,

I think everyone should keep a tube of Mupirocin on hand at all times. Just kidding. It does tend to stop infections and clear them up if they're not too bad yet. I would put it on every spot you see on Zoey (and the boys) that remotely resembles a pimple for a while. A close family member had to do this after a couple reocurrences of MRSA. Hope she's well soon.

This is Joyce. I just can't believe it. This MRSA has got to go. Good job being on top of it so soon though. Hopefully early treatment will keep it from spreading. I can't wait to hear about the WISH!!

Oh heck on the MRSA. I swear, any child who has ever spent any time in any hospital gets it. Dakin had it too. BLAH!

Just asked Gramma Barb the other day if she had heard anything about Zoey's Make a Wish. Must be karma that it is happening this weekend. Can't wait to see pics.

So sorry that the MRSA has returned - that is nasty stuff - will put Zoey in my "special" prayers this Sunday (always have her in my daily prayers).

Have a great time with your "Make A Wish"

Well, just so our little Z doesn't feel all alone in this latest delima, Pres has MRSA in a nostril, has had it since her first long stay at the hospital and every time we have been admitted it shows up in her screening, it always will for the rest of her life, that is just MRSA... so these little besties have that in common too!
Can't wait to here what our girl wished for. Was it the moon, like I suggested?!?!?
