Baby needs a new pair of shoes ...

Make that several. We have a dilemma here in the Needham household and it involves Miss Z and those cute little and I mean LITTLE piggies of hers.

First, she does have the tiniest feet.Ever.She is 3 1/2 and wears a size 4.Well,really a 6 to make room for her orthotics but if I were buying shoes to wear without orthotics, definitely a 4 ... with room!Teeny tiny those feet and I swear they haven't grown in forever.Unless you have met Zoey in person,it is difficult for me to articulate how small she is.The facial expression of people when they ask how old she is and I reply, says it all.I am currently contemplating lying about her age.Kidding.Pictures and videos on the blog are deceiving.I had an email from a mom recently and they mentioned that Zoey appeared to be over 30 pounds. Not so much.Try 23 pounds.Although, since beginning the blenderized diet and I am shooting that g-tube up with avocado's and turkey and bread and all that regular good stuff,I do believe she has packed on a little bit of weight.Much needed weight.

Anyway, back to the shoes. As you can see from the pictures,Zoey is chewing up the sides of her shoes. And when I say chewing, not actually chewing.Although,if she would just eat something, even shoes,I might just throw a party. For now though, the only chewing is being done by the metal rivet on the side of her Sure Steps.Mainly the right one as that is her "good leg" and the one she propels forward with.We went through 2 pairs of our favorite go to shoe, low top Chuck Taylors,in less than two weeks. The money tree is barren in the back yard as of late,so something has got to give because as much as I love this girl and want her to look oh so ever stylish,I can't replace shoes weekly. What to do?What to do?Leather holds up a bit better. We have 2 pairs of Lelli Kelly that are still holding up,but barely. You can see one of them in the upper left of the picture.Cute shoes but again, can't be replacing those bi weekly either.

Because Zoey's preferred mode of getting around,is scooting the way she does,we just put her down, where ever, and let her do her thing. That includes the pavement at the park and the floors at church.Where ever.If she walked we would let her down and she would be free to cruise, so this is no different. At least for now.I know we won't be able to let her do this forever.Certain we might get a look or two when she is 10 or so and still scooting her way around this world..My hope is one day she will walk but in the mean time, this is the deal. And her shoes aren't digging it.I am on the hunt to find a brand that is durable and darling ... got to be out there somewhere.

In other late breaking news,we spent an insane amount of time at an eye doctor appointment yesterday.Little of the 3 hours was actually spent talking with her doctor. The majority was waiting, and waiting, and waiting ... how does an office, granted at a busy children's hospital clinic, but how can the schedule run 3 hours behind? No clue.Would have left at hour 2 but we really needed to have a game plan on that tear duct that re-closed.10% re-close after surgery and Zoey's of course did and now we are at a crossroad. We can re-do the original surgery.Same surgery with different balloon size to inflate the duct and see if it stays open longer than 2 weeks. If it re-closes then we will be sent to a specialist for a more invasive surgery, which,I've got to tell you,I think we are headed for anyway.Or we can go straight to the specialist and bypass this duplicate surgery. There could be a structural defect deep in her nasal passage that her current doctor can't identify with a simple probe. Also, some kids get tubes in the duct.Similar idea to ear tubes. Our currant eye doctor is not a fan.Maybe we try a different doctor and go that route and then the specialist.I have no idea and when I have no idea,I defer to my fabulous pediatrician.I am certain he'll have an opinion.

Well, that's all.Not really though.Lots more to share but no time as the natives are getting restless.Stopping now will force me to update sooner.Next up ... pictures from our almost week long visit with grandbaby Charlotte ... the walker extraordinaire and the climber of Mimi's steps ... wait till you see that!!!

p.s. can you cover the rivet with something? let's invent something and become millionares so we can fund all the RR adoptions out of our own pockets!

I think Alayna feet will be a size 3 forever, I thought they had grown and went to buy some new shoes this week and the 4's were huge. Oh well, cute piggies for a lifetime, could be worse eh?
So sorry about her tear duct, hope the solution your ped comes up with works and she doesn't have to endure too many surgeries and 3 hour waits again.

I was wondering that, too--can you cover the rivet with moleskin or something?

Magdalena has the exact same sure steps. She wears them with a size two shoe that is still too big. And I'm not kidding you, this very day I thought about lying about her age. We met another 18 month old who was tall and running around. It seems like suddenly the developmental gap has gotten huge.

Yikes, her little SMO sure is hard on her shoes! Emily's don't do that, the rivet must be on a different location.

It's interesting that Zoe has such tiny feet. Emily is almost 7 years old and in a size 6.5 shoe! I buy 8's for her AFO's.

Teeny footed little girls!

these are the BEST shoes! The woman who designs these shoes lives in the same suburb of Indianapolis that we live in (Fishers) and they are made at the same factory as the See Kai Run shoes. I bought some for Whitney and Anne last winter and they are AWESOME!!! I went on her site to find the link to give you and was so excited I did because right now she is having an inventory reduction sale with 1/2 off. maybe you can stock up? most of the shoes are less than $20/pr and they were originally recommended to me by our PT because they fit well with Whitney's sure steps. hope you can find some cute ones for zoey!!!

Leather keds... they hold up well, look good and don't break the bank. My daughter wore them every day to nursery school. Here's a website with a pair in a size 6 Toddler for 32.00, but they may be on sale elsewhere.

I have the same problem with Bethany my daughter with CP. She was going throught shoes in a couple of weeks and with her AFO's there is always a limited selection of shoes that are wide enough to go over them. Thankfully she is clearing her toes more so it is now every two months or so.

I can kind of understand Zoey's size. My son will be three this week and weighs 26 pounds. 2T pants just now fit him and he's a size 5 sometimes a size 6 shoe. He's not unhealthy just small. Obviously, he's not as small as Zoey, but people always think he's about 2. They can't believe he's almost 3. The upside when I'm in a hurry I hoist him on my hip and go. His pediatrician says his always be small, but that's the way God made him so I've decided to embrace it.

I feel your pain, or shall I say, my pocketbook fells the pain. Moise goes through a pair of shoes about every 4-6 weeks. His problem is in the toes. The darn CP will not allow him to lift his toes high enough to get them off the ground so he drags them. Dragging toes = holes in shoes.
I've tried everything and have long ago given up on finding anything that saves the shoes. But.......it's just money...right?There are worse things, much worse things.
