Advent ...

"The season of Advent means there is something on the horizon the likes of which we have never seen before. What is possible is to not see it, to miss it, to turn just as it brushes past you. And you begin to grasp what it was you missed, like Moses in the cleft of the rock, watching God's back fade in the distance. So stay. Sit. Linger. Tarry. Ponder. Wait. Behold. Wonder. There will be time enough for running. For rushing. For worrying. For pushing. For now, stay. Wait. Something is on the horizon.”~Jan L. Richardson

Tomorrow the boys will run downstairs and fling opened door number 1 of our Advent box, looking for a small treat. And they will repeat that routine over and over for the following 24 days.On most days they will find above said treat, except on those rare occasions, when their old momma was far too tired to remember to do it the night before.Don't I just feel like the worst mom ever, as little voices resound in unison,"Ohhhh moooom ... you forgot to fill the box!"While the two of them perform this daily ritual, the rest of us, we will watch, with great anticipation,as door after door remains open, until we arrive at the final destination ... door number 25.To me,the question will always be,what exactly did I do with my time,my talent and my treasure over the course of those 3 plus weeks?Did I do all I could,to remain present in the true meaning of the season?Mostly I hope, but certainly, not always. But gosh,I sure do try.Does that count?

I have posted this video the last several years counting.Seems like a great way to jump start the season.Check out The Advent Conspiracy and consider the message. It's a good one.

I needed this post today! It's hard not to get caught up in all the craziness of this season....and it sure is a lot less fulfilling when we don't make time for the TRUE meaning of this holiday season! Thanks for the reminder! Hugs!

I've been volunteering at the Festival of Trees all day today. I fought tears many times as I ran into people who knew Kristen, some didn't even know she passed away. I spent time reading about other children, some lost their battles and some won. I was beginning to think I bit off too much. Maybe it was too soon to be out amongst my hospital family. Then I arrived home to see a package sitting on my door step, inside was the most adorable Build a Bear, a special note and a special necklace. I again sat there in tears as I opened the box and I thought to myself, I can do this. I have the most amazing people on every side encouraging me and cheering me on. Thank you. The bear is perfect! and the necklace is already a treasured gift.

Saw another DS cute girl at dinner tonight. Would never know the girl had DS except I could tell her cute tongue was bigger than normal. But her family looked our way when they noticed Arina. As we walked out, I heard her tell her hubby that we had two!
I miss Thomas, I wished we had gotten some contact info or at least a picture!

This will be the first year in 7 years that I will be decorating for Christmas, and I'm so excited. But I also can't wait until Claire is old enough to have an advent calendar too.
