"There are souls in this world which have the gift of finding joy everywhere and of leaving it behind them when they go." ~Frederick Wm. Faber

Sunday,Zoey and I had the privilege and honor in being invited to watch the dress rehearsal of the Free 2 Be Me Dance, winter ballet program, for their beginning group.Their little part by the way,was from "The Sound of Music","So Long, Farewell" song ... little "Gretl",the cutie that played that part,oh my gosh, she was darling! Also,if you notice in the pictures, they have red and blue tape on their shoes to help them remember their left and right and the minute we got there,a few of the girls insisted Zoey have tape and put it on for her!I just about died.

Our angel nurse during chemo days, and now, very dear friend,Laura,is a volunteer with the program.Although Zoey is still years away from being able to participate, today I received the beautiful gift of a glimpse into a future filled with possibilities. As for Miss Zoey ... Watching her take everything in,was absolutely magical. She smiled and laughed and "danced" and waved to everyone and of course had to hug every, single, solitary person and let me tell you,she knew when she missed some one! When it was over, she so did not want to leave. We will be back my precious girl and oh what a day that will be!

Prepare for picture overload!

Oh, that melts my heart.
Piper's ballet teacher puts a red heart and blue star on their slippers, too, so they know which foot is which.

How cute is that?! As a dancer I always wanted to open my own studio. In the past few years I've considered opening one strickly for special needs. That would be so fun.

Wow this looks like such an amazing program and how lucky to be invited to watch the dress rehearsal. Zoey looks so happy, she obviously loves the music and dancing, one can see it written all over her face. Pure joy.

Btw, I just love that quote in your title, too. It's so beautiful, and definitely speaks volumes about our kids. I may have to use that somewhere sometime soon.

If you and Zoey have an interest in being in a ballet class now, you might want to look into the Ballerina Dreams program if there is one in your area. If serves children with a variety of disabilities (including Zoey's challenges of DS and CP. Helpers will even hold the children up and help them dance. Also, some children dance in wheelchairs or walkers. Zoey is old enough for this program as it serves ages 3 to 12 and it's excellent therapy. Our city (Edmonton, AB) offers this program for children and I know several other major cities across Canada and the US do.
