A brief conversation about Heaven with my granddaughter ...

Charlotte and I were baking the other day. She was sitting crossed legged atop my counter, as she usually does, when I am busy in the kitchen doing one thing or another. In between licks of batter and endless precious chatter, she glanced at this picture of my mom and asked: "Mimi, is that a picture of Grandma in Heaven?"

I said, "Oh no babydoll, that's a picture of  Grandma taken a long time ago at a place called Yellowstone."

Charlotte then asked, "Mimi, what does Heaven look like?"

I said, "Well Char, that is a very good question. What do you think Heaven looks like?"

She quickly replied, "I think Heaven is yellow. And that God is wearing an orange jacket. And that Grandma is wearing a purple vest. And I think Gracie is also wearing a purple vest."

Her mom and I just looked at each other and half smiled. You know, the kind of smile that has joy and sadness attached to it.

As we are about to mark one year since my moms death, and nearly 5 months since Grace died, I think I will go with my innocent granddaughters vision of Heaven.

It sounds colorful. And happy. And my mom and Gracie are together. That brings me peace. I think I will close my eyes and think of that today.

I have no words for this. Sorry about that. Wish I did.

That's so very sweet. I imagine that we should all remember what heaven is like when we are children. I'm thinking of you today, as always, and send love and hugs.

Such a sweet picture, straight from her heart...and a comforting one.

Beautiful insights and perspective, and imagine how that image must look to sweet Charlotte. Colorful and happy. That we each envision heaven in our own way is such a beautiful gift. I know that your mom and Gracie were there with you in that moment smiling down on the conversation. And might I say what a gift Charlotte has in a most amazing grandmother who is making such wonderful memories with her granddaughter!

I love the faith and innocence of children. Perhaps that is why we are invited to become as little children. Thanks for sharing.

Out of the mouth of babies. Pure innocence & sweetness. Oh but we could as adults have those thoughts.

So sweet. When my dad passed away a few years back, Piper was sure he was up in Heaven playing checkers with Jesus :)
