Home from the hospital ...

First things first ... Zoey did indeed have a tear duct present, blocked but present. We were thrilled with that news and her doctor said she probed it and flushed it and that Zoey should be good to go.No more infections. No more daily eye drops and let me tell you,Zoey hated the daily, often 4 times a day,eye drops. She saw that bottle coming and let us know in no uncertain terms she was none too happy. So check that off Miss Zoey's list, thank you very much. Also, while under anesthesia,Zoey had a complete eye exam and her vision is completely normal.Normal.How I love that word normal.Highly underrated if you as me.Also normal is her optic nerve.Because Zoey suffered a major stroke, there was always great concern over the integrity of her optic nerve.2 years ago it looked good and once again another look told us that it is perfect as well.Zoey of course has her peripheral eyesight loss but all things considered,a whole lot better than anyone had originally thought at the beginning of her little life.

As for the little love.Oh how very ticked off she was after the procedure. She did really super this morning at o'dark thirty.Placed her in her car seat at about 4:30 am and she stayed awake the entire ride, happy during pre-op but after,oh boy, that was a different story.Sad,sad and really sad.And puffy.Really puffy. And uncomfortable, really uncomfortable. Her eyes are dilated and will remain that way for several hours and the bright sunlight on the way home was no fun at all.Once we arrived home,I finally got a smile I'd been waiting for.We were barely home 10 minutes when Taylor swooped her up,took her to her room and there they remain, sound asleep. So cute the two of them laying there.

Now the bummer news of the day:Jessica had a call from her orthopedics office today, stating that they just received notice that authorization for her surgery has been denied. Are you kidding me?We have a PPO,with Aetna, good insurance, never have been denied anything, over all these years and now a denial for a surgery that she needs.Their denial is based on the hip surgery still be in the "experimental" stages. We have very little recourse at this point. The thing is,Jessica really needs this surgery. She is a super active person and has not been able to do anything since last December. She has a difficult time standing or sitting for long periods of time and things are only getting worse and with no surgery, there is no chance of it getting better either.Just for laughs we are going to call and see what the procedure costs if you were paying cash.Over the phone they threw out one figure of $8500.00 to Jess but I am not certain what that entails or covers.Jess is frustrated.Mark is frustrated and I am frustrated as well as disappointed for her.Jess was just starting to plan all the "after surgery" activities.Back to running and working out and she also was planning a century bike ride and now,it's all on hold.Sure hoping we can get this worked out.Sooner rather than later.

That is all for now.1:30 in the afternoon and it feels like 9:00 at night. An alarm at 3:45am,in the shower and in the car by 4:30,is starting to catch up to me.More later.Off to check on the sleeping beauties ...

Great for Zoey!!! Good news is so awesome!

So sorry about Jess's surgery. Are there any other options? another type of procedure that might be approved? Or let me guess ,this one was the only one for her type of problem, right?

Well - have you ever had a day where it was ALL good news when dipping into the medical world? Good luck with the insurance company - you'll need it. And hubby of mine is in insurance...still gives me the gripes.

Great to hear Ms. Zoey's good news! Wow - you actually got to say N.o.r.m.a.l.... What's that like?

I love when they starting coming off the anesthesia - that's a nice little irritable gitter bug!

Okay - have a great great evening. Squeeze miss priss for me!

I'm glad your home with Zoey, what awesome news about her eyes! :) That sucks about Jess' surgery being denied. Can you have the doctors office call and work on it some more??

How is the blenderized diet going?

I'm so glad to hear this good news about your little one and that you're home from the hospital. As for Jess and the insurance company -- ooooooo, don't get me started. Insurance companies are evil, I'm convinced of that.

Wow thrilled to hear about Zoey's eyes, that's really fantastic that everything is 'normal', a much needed word for once!! Love those pictures, she looks beautiful, a little tired but beautiful!

Sorry to hear about Jess's surgery being denied. I guess for me it's something new because we have to pay privately for most medical procedures and get part of it reimbursed later from our insurance, so having to wait for a surgery or a check-up or a medical test to get sanctioned is new to me. I think it's really unfair that something that's definitely needed is being denied to her, don't they realise how much her life will change after this surgery. I pray that things work out, feeling so very bad for her.

When I was 19 I needed a meniscal transplant that insurance did not cover and was also "experimental"... Can you imagine how mad Buddy and kathleen were?? hahaha.. especially because the DR basically sad that I would be crippled by 25 if I didn't get it.. FRUSTRATING!

I have no idea how long they fought with insurance.. but it was a long time! Talk to my mom about it.

But so happy to hear about Zoey!!!! Congrats on the tear duct! :)

I was going to mention Kara's deal... Insurance ultimately denied the procedure and they had to pay out of pocket. And it ended up being, well, extremely costly. I am so frustrated with insurance in general right now, although indeed, it is a necessary evil. Sometimes you love it - sometimes you hate it.

Glad Zoey's procedure went well - hopefully Jess will get hers approved asap!

Sweet, sweet photos of Miss Z & Taylor. Love the second one the most.. Phew that hurdle is over. One medical procedure is "outta here" Awesome. And wonderful news about her optic nerve. Another layer of worry to come off your shoulders.

And now Jessica :( This is so sad and super frustrating for Jess...(and everyone) here's hoping another avenue will present itself and the insurance company "Will see the light" and change their decision. Isn't it too bad we pay all the monies to them and then they have the final word. Doesn't seem right somehow...
Can't the doctor step in here and help? (convince the insurance company)
Off my soapbox....

Yay! So glad Z has a tear duct and they were able to flush it!
I see on your last post that you are trying out a blended diet for Miss Z.

Check out this post by an awesome mommy who blends food for her son's Gtube feeds.
It helped me a lot when we first started! Hope it helps you too!

That header pic is one of my most favorite pic's of Miss Zoey. LOVE it!

Don't you just love insurance companies??!!??!! You would not believe the crap we have been through with our insurance co., just to get a grief counselor. It has taken 2 1/2weeks and we FINALLY get to go to one tomorrow night.

Ashleigh and Brad neither one have health insurance right now and it makes me a nervous wreck.
