Just another evening in the 'hood ...

When Joe ventures outside to play, no matter the time of day, I always say the same thing: " Stay local, okay?" You see, because this child of mine, he gets, shall we say,  just a tad bit distracted sometimes. Never seems to be quite where he says he is going to be. Always manages to find a loophole in something you have said about where he should or should not be going or what he should or should not be doing. He has an uncanny habit of conveniently forgetting one instruction or another. But that is just Joe and that being the case I usually just shake my head and smile while doing so and decide, on most days, I wouldn't want him any other way.

So tonight, after a beautiful day at the beach,

Joe showered, bounded down the steps and headed out the door. Not long after, I went outside to check on him and found this on the front lawn.

Seeing my husband has been at work since early this morning and has not and will not be home, until well after midnight, I am thinking perhaps Joe has had a hand in this. And a hand indeed. And a partner in crime at that. His buddy Dylan from up the street. And this is where I find them.

Yep, that is the manhole top. Off. I am guessing using something in that ratchet/wrench tool box thingy to remove it. And for what? And why? Why would 2 boys decide to enter a filthy and deep and dark sewer. Well, for these of course.

Seems logical and worth the effort. It seems very boyish and more than that, seems very 'Joe-ish'. Lord help me come the teenage years and wish me luck. I am so gonna need it.

Loved and hated this post!!! Loved the Joe antics. Love that boy. Hated the pics of the beach because I actually hurt not being there!!! I'm so glad you got to enjoy a day there, I know how Zoey LOVES the beach :)

Yes you are so going to need it. Luck that is. I know why we are sent these boys later in the series...with our first borns we would be crying hysterically for sure...but with time and experience we simply say boys will be boys:)

Love the beach pics, and love the two boys figuring out a way to get those precious balls. Boys and mischief go hand in hand.

They need to be boys, to learn to be men. That's all I've got to say about that. Your husband will love these photos. Esp if his tools end up put back where they belong. Ours are still learning that part. Wink.

I'd say the future may not be as bad as you think... they had a purpose, retrieved what they needed with a few tools (of course) and put everything neatly back in place. Whats the big deal?
I'd kill my son!
good luck dear!

HA!!! That's awesome. How logical!

HOLY... well, balls seems a little too graphic but I guess that was the project goal? I can only marvel at his planning & execution skills. I wouldn't have the faintest idea what to do with a ratchet set, much less the, um, nerve to go down into the sewers. Love it.

That's actually something to be a bit scared of and proud of at the same time. Dangerous, sure, they could easily have crushed a finger. But the act of trying on their own was pretty admirable.

Of course, I say that because it was not MY situation. Had it been my own son I am sure I would not be sitting back and commenting with fascination, I would more than likely be pissed. But that's the double-edged sword of it. :)

love the beach photos - such a great "big bro" to little Zoey. Wow does Joe look like you Heather. and Jake looks like Mark. What a good looking pair of sons you two have produced!

As for the front yard thing - I love it!! While.... Dad's at work the son will use those tools for something good. Just look at the reward for all their hard work!

Laughed out loud over those photos.

What a world of difference between daughters & sons...

Oh that's just too funny! That takes some serious ingenuity and planning to pull off! I see a bright future for Joe!

It is sometime after thirty years of age when a boy matures into a man, I believe, and it is also the time when he first stops and has the thought, "I could get hurt doing that."
I pray for the Mother of a Boy much more than I pray for the Father of a Girl.
Enjoy the moment, and know where the first aid kit is at all times.

Such a boy thing to do! Glad we don't have any obvious manholes by our house....cause I can totally see my middle boys getting together and doing something like that! Quite impressive really! :)
