Kindergarten begins ...

Kinda. Sorta.

You see, Zoey was given a gift at the end of her preschool year this past June. And what started out as a joke, as in me saying offhandedly, " Does she have to leave this safe, beautiful environment? Can't she stay?" Turned into, a meeting or two and voila, Zoey remains in her preschool classroom, with her teacher and the 2 aides that she has had for the last 2 years and the number of children in her class, including her, seven. Just seven. What a nice student/teacher ratio, don't you think?

Her teacher is credentialed in Special Education from preschool through high school and that is the only reason this worked out. Oh, and also because they love Zoey. Really love her and found a way to fight a bit and make it work. And my heart and my head could not be happier. This will count as her kindergarten year and next year I have huge decisions to make but for now I will bask in the beauty of these days.

And can I tell you one of the best things about her staying in that classroom? It would be this:

Charlotte Claire, niece to Zoey, extraordinaire, is in the same class as a typical peer role model. How cool is that?

How absolutely magical is that?

When my daughter was supposed to go into kindergarten I was having an awful time of it. As you, I offhandedly wished she could stay in preschool with her aide Brannen. Well low and behold that is what happened. It was even fully funded! It was a great fit for our family and it gave my daughter an extra year to catch up to her peers and it gave her oodles of self-confidence. When she did start kindergarten the following year she was still the smallest in her class but she was really ready!

what a wonderful thing..not only for Charlotte & Aunt Zoey but the peace of mind you & Mark must have. A HUGE KUDOS to the school for taking your thought and making it happen. Zoey looks so happy!

And Charlotte seems so at ease to be there also. What an environment this school/faculty puts forth.

I have to say the standing, ambulating, positioning of her body in these pictures is so impressive... what was that old bad PT thinking and how amazing is the new one? I've never seen her as upright as I do (in the small snippet of pics I see on your blog) since he entered your lives.. Good job advocating mom... both in PT and in Kindergarten! I'd say Charlotte and Zoey are equally lucky to have such wonderful people to learn from.

WOW! That's so amazing that they're going to be in the same class this year, and so wonderful that Zoey (and Charlotte) will be in such a nurturing environment. It's going to be a great year!

Heather, Mark and Family,

You must admit, God does work in mysterious ways. Take one day at a time and worry about next year when the time comes. Charlotte and Zoey together, how awesome is that. You two deserve every bright moment that comes your way. I just love all your inspirational blogs and updates. Feel like I know you through my Bluebelle friend.

I love it! She is such a doll. And to be in class her her darling niece is just wonderful. I love to see her standing up and taking steps like that. It looks like your new therapy is working to bring good movement to her weak side. Completely beautiful!

How cool that Zoey and Charlotte get the share this school year!! Zoey's getting so grown up looking. There is just something about that picture of her standing, her face looks older, just as beautiful, but a bit older. :)
