Zoey's new ride and appointment updates ...

Photobucket

In 6-8 weeks, hopefully less, Miss Zoey will be the proud new owner of Quickie Zippie Kidz Wheelchair.Similar to the picture above but in pink, why of course and with her name embroidered on the back rest. Also, the wheel placement will be a bit different as well, with the wheels attached towards the front of the chair with the hopes that Zoey will one day be able to roll that sucker herself. One armed will prove tricky but have no fear, the wonder girl can do anything. How cute is that?Yep,life has certainly changed and morphed a bit, when one can call wheelchairs cute and also have a palpable level of excitement for her child to put it to use.

You know,I get, that for some, the purchasing of a piece of equipment like this might be an in your face, yes folks your child does indeed have a disability and it's not going away thing but for me,really,it's is no big deal. She needs this chair. This chair represents an opportunity for Zoey to be at peer level, interact with the world around her and hopefully one day,God willing, achieve some form of independence. This was a necessary next step and its all good. And in true Needham fashion, cuz humor is essential on this journey, taken straight from the mouth of my niece one Christmas morning, when someone was not happy with a gift,"You get what you get and you don't throw a fit."We add this little gem to our many other mantras we subscribe to,with "Slow and Steady" still in the forefront.

Zoey had her 4 year well check this past Wednesday.Very uneventful.Which I love.Speaking of which, love my pediatrician.A large percentage of his practice is special needs so he sure knows his stuff. He has seen it all over the many years of being in practice and when he looks at your child and marvels and shakes his head at all that she has been through and all that she is today, you sure know that speaks volumes.Like I said, nothing too earth shattering to report.Zoey weighs in at a whopping 25 pounds or 11.33 something kilograms and is 35 inches tall.On the Down syndrome chart, which yes, there is infact such a thing for our darlings,Zoey is in the 25th percentile for both.Perfectly proportioned my sweet girl. Her doctor is more than content with her size and doesn't want to change anything except, he too wishes she would kick her g-tube habit.Boy it would be nice to get this child orally eating again.Somedays I really wonder if it's just a pipedream or what.Oh well. Not sweating it like I use to.Acceptance maybe but most likely just tired of fighting something that I just have no control of right now.

We also were at the cardiologist this week too. That perfect fix of hers remains perfect. No leakage. The enlargement caused by her ACTH days has long returned to normal in size and my slight worry that her purple/almost black hands and feet when cold, was related to a heart issue, has been relieved and has now been chalked up to poor circulation.Seriously though,if you could see this child's extremities when she is cold, you would panic too.Perhaps I dare say, even freak out.

So that is all.Busy week with another one on the horizon. Except this week we have exciting busy. Not only is Ella's birthday bash next Saturday, where there will be so many of our blogging buddies flying in from all parts of the country,we have the distinct honor of hosting the most beautiful Addy and her lovely mommy Cammie. We are beside ourselves with excitement.Down right giddy. The prospect of all that cuteness,in one place,is quite possibly more than I can stand.Photo opportunities will be at an all time high and don't you know it,I will be front and center with my camera!

I showed Zoey's wheelchair to Big Chris - we are really having wheelchair envy here. LOL! I can't wait for Zoey to get it. She will be zipping around faster than you think. :) Love it!

I don't know if it is just the pictures, but her hair is starting to look a bit red. She is SUCH a beautiful little girl. We are soooooo happy that she is doing so well and healthy. She has passed up Christopher in the weight department (I think everybody has). Way to go!

Loved her birthday pics. It looked like a wonderful day.

Lots of hugs & smooches from her long-distance BF. LOL!

Hugs!~

Good news all around, love her new ride...pink will be too cute for words!....love that you have a doctor you love and who rejoices in a child's growth and accomplishments rather than where they are deficit (so tired of that from people I could punch someones lights out!)...love that her heart repair remains perfect...and love that quote "You get what you get and you don't throw a fit....made me smile when I read you had put that in there because when Luke was in kindergarten the teacher had the kids come up with the "class rules"... that quote...was Luke's "rule" contribution for the class and it was up on the wall all year long! LOL

My almost 3.5 year old weighs 28 lbs and is only 37 inches tall. On the so called "normal" charts he's below the 1st percentile. I worried at first, but he has continually grown and is healthy. He's just small but who really cares? Zoey looks wonderful. How exciting to get the wheelchair. I can see how it will add so much to Zoey's independence.

Wow, Zoey looks so much like a little girl now and not a baby. How bittersweet that must be! Congrats on a lovely, uneventful well child. So nice to have nothing to report. She is amazing and such a fighter, to be through all she has and shine the way she does.
I think the wheelchair is going to be great for Zoey!

What a beautiful chair. And how exciting!!! It sounds wonderful for her! :)

Chloe gets the crazy purple hands/feet when cold too. i've heard it's actually common in kids with Ds. It IS startling and many a kid has taken a trip to the ER in response.

Wish we were going to see you at the birthday bash! One of these days we'll get out that way and meet y'all. I'm waiting for Lacey to move out there too though. ;)

I love the chair and can't wait to see Zoey cruising around in it!

I too was worried about Claire's PURPLE hands, but her cardio said circulation too. Glad to hear Zoey's heart is perfect!
