Joy, with just a tinge of sadness, on a beautiful February day ...

We have a great little neighborhood. Loads of kids. And really nice ones at that. Our cul- de- sac is always hopping. Especially today, as kids poured out of their respective front doors, presumably after homework was finished and after school snacks devoured, all in the quest of soaking up this gorgeous Southern California afternoon.

Zoey and I parked ourselves out on the front lawn for a bit, to take in the happenings.

And boy was it happening. The men of the neighborhood playing basketball, vying for the title of king of the hoop.

Photobucket

Little puppy dogs who come last in the hierarchy of beings in the house and are long over due, their daily walks.

Photobucket

Little loves who want desperately to catch up. To no avail.

Photobucket

Sweet friends who take the time to stop and chat for a minute.

Photobucket

Some, pausing long enough to catch their breath and visit while doing so, with an enamoured almost 5 year old.

And just like that, they all were off. Much to Miss Z's dismay. And this mommy, if I can be honest for a moment, is slightly sad from time to time, that the world keeps moving and moving fast at that, and my sweet little girl, will just never quite catch up.

It was actually gorgeous here in good ole MO today too. So longing to be in Cali though! I feel the same way you do about Zoey. Addy watches many things from the sidelines :( Someday these girls are going to take off like crazy no matter how they go about it!

Don't keep that tinge of sadness for long. k?

Miss Z is already head and shoulders above and beyond most people. In her beautiful way.

That weather looks amazing! I could use a little of that right now! Maybe a trip to Cali is in order....great weather and great people...especially a sweet girl named Zoey...who I'd love to give a little squeeze to!

That picture of Zoey sitting with all the kiddos around her is just precious! But, the next one just broke my heart! I would give almost anything to be able to see Zoey...and Jax....and Emily...and Gavin be able to get up, and walk & run with their buddies! This is an ache that invades each of my days. I hate it! I feel so blessed to have my sweet boy....but I feel so wounded by what he can't do.....

You're not alone Momma!

Love you guys! Hugs!

Thanking God she has a mamma like you who can make sure she can catch them every now and then.

I just think of how much we are blessed by miss Zoey, but that constant reminder to stop and take in what is right in front of us.

Often we move so fast we miss out on all the beauty that is right there, waiting, just BEGGING to be noticed...and Miss Zoey see's it all.

Im sure she and mama could walk the dog in her adorable wheels?! Have you looked around for a ride on type of toy that maybe she could manage? Just a thought. Im sorry if my ideas only make it worse. Even though she cant participate with the others in some ways, my heart believes that she DID participate- with whoever cares to be the recipient of some grace....

Your girl has so many admirers! They had to go for a while, but I know they'll be back soon...who could resist her??

You have such a beautiful heart, Heather, fully reflected in Zoey. She's a lucky little girl to have you and so many others looking out for her and learning from her. Don't be sad - borrow some of that JOY she radiates!

Its okay to be sad for her once in a while. I get that tinge everyone once in a while when at a family gathering with Kaelyn on my lap just watching the kids play and trying desperately to get down and join them. They will get there, they just have to, but all this waiting is kinda hard sometimes, huh? Zoey is so beautiful, I seriously can't wait till we can meet in person. Kaelyn and her could have a great time chillin with each other.

You sound like a very loving and inspirational lady.

What a wonderful group of neighborhood kids to sit with Zoey if for only a few moments. I see her brothers in several photos. The dog even looks happy to be out with Joe for a walk. Last photo does make me a little sad, but hey - you get to sit out in February and soak some Ca sunshine. How awesone is that?

In one respect Zoey is way ahead of all of us.

Aww, don't feel sad! Zoe is a beautiful little girl and she is a fighter. Also, remember this: make time for the quiet moments because God whispers and the world is loud <3

Maybe she won't ever "catch up," but from here it looks like she might have many, many chances in the center of all life.

It does look like a fabulous neighborhood, and while I'm glad that there are people that stop and sit with Zoey, I would be happy to hang out in the grass for hours!
